It's also a very popular birding area.I was at a boondocking site about half a mile from Rustler Park Campground at 8,500 feet. I often come here and spend a couple of weeks exploring the entire mountain range. It has the biggest variety of wildflowers I've seen in a single spot, with at least two dozen types of flowers and a dozen varieties of mushrooms, plus incredible birding and beautiful springs and creeks throughout.

When I got old enough to give the truck the attention it deserved, I started searching for the perfect slide-in camper. The hunt lasted years, but patience finally paid off when a buddy spotted this Grandby on Marketplace. It had been exceptionally well cared for, stored indoors, and preserved far better than I ever expected to find. The combination feels like it was meant to be.A full restoration is in the plans someday, but for now, we're content to do what this old truck was built for: explore the back roads and soak in the beauty of the Big Sky State.

We had a motorhome for 20 years before selling it last year because the kids were no longer interested in camping and because of my diagnosis. This year, my wife and I realized we missed camping and decided to live for today. We started the process of figuring out what we wanted. We have a side-by-side UTV that we try to take places, so we were originally thinking about a toy hauler. But we don't always take the UTV and wanted something we could pretty much just get in and go.We decided to go to the Hershey RV Show to see our options in person. The Lance 855S wasn't on our radar at the time, but it sure was by the end of our day there. It was perfect for us. It fit our Ford F-350, was roomy inside, and setup was easy. We were sold on it, but the one at the show was already sold, and they didn't know how quickly another would be available. While driving back home to New Jersey, we scoured the internet looking for the perfect one. We found it, but it was in Florida. Remember when I said we live for today now? Well, we got home, outfitted the truck with Torklift tie-downs, and the next day drove to Florida. We made the deal over the phone while driving down and picked it up the following day.Now that we were in Florida, we couldn't pass up stopping at Fort Wilderness for two nights as our shakedown trip. Fort Wilderness is our happy place, and it did not disappoint. We are hoping we get to have many more happy camping trips.

We wanted the flexibility of a truck camper to maximize the uses of our entire rig.Being able to tow a boat, separate the camper, launch the boat, or explore without breaking camp each time is a major benefit. Not only are we carrying our home away from home, but we can also remove the camper, support it securely on custom supports, and freely use the truck as desired.

After Overland Expo Mountain West in Loveland, I spent nine days exploring the mountains of Colorado on my way back home to Southern California.I specifically chose this spot after seeing many people on YouTube taking pictures on this rock formation. I'm always searching for awesome places to park my truck with epic views in the background. Not only was the view epic, but the trail to get there was just as incredible. I got to test the rig on many different obstacles and was constantly amazed by how capable this full-size setup is. I know Imogene Pass isn't crazy technical, but judging by the looks my buddy and I were getting, it's definitely not a trail that sees many full-size rigs. The on-and-off rain showers made things even more interesting. This trip definitely made it to the top of my all-time favorite adventures.
