This place has always been special to us, as it sits exactly halfway between our home in Northern Nevada and our family in Eugene, Oregon, helping break up the drive. Relaxing in the hot springs with those beautiful views made it even better.

It was day six of a twentynine-day trip through multiple states. We had never driven that route before, and it exceeded our expectations. After traveling along the river for quite a while, I asked my husband to pull over so I could take some photos. I was originally photographing the opposite direction, but when I turned around and saw our truck camper against the beautiful backdrop, I knew it was worth capturing. It ended up being one of our favorite photos from the trip.

We logged more than 20 miles each day on our e-bikes and added a hike at a different location every day.

Apparently my roommate did too, because I convinced him to come along. I found a campsite near Utah Lake on Google Earth, located on top of a mountain that somehow doesn’t even have an official name. Once we reached the trailhead, things got rough fast. One section was so steep you couldn’t even see the trail. We crawled over football-sized rocks and large rock slabs, and I had to engage the front differential to make it through. The two-and-a-half-hour climb was worth it for the views of the Wasatch Range and the stars.

Afterward, we found a place to spend the night before continuing our journey to Nova Scotia.

This photo was taken on the last day of a three-day trip in October 2025 after picking up our camper in Salt Lake City and driving across Highway 50 to Reno. From there, we crossed the Sierra Nevada on Highway 80 back into California, making one final stop along the Yuba River near the summit. We couldn’t have asked for a better first trip. Many thanks to Truck Camper Magazine and the truck camper community for sharing your knowledge. We especially enjoy the Behind the Shot articles, which have given us many ideas for future adventures.

I took this photo from the top of the dunes. It's a night we'll remember for a long time.

We drove south from Mexicali to San Felipe before crossing to the Pacific coast. We camped and drove on the beaches, where this photo was taken. Along the way, we drove up a volcano, experienced part of the Baja 500 race route, toured the Guadalupe Valley wine region, and crossed back into the United States through Tecate.

This spot has level campsites, a pond for kayaking, and plenty of hiking and exploring. Cold mornings often produce fog in the valley, making for a beautiful setting. It's a great place to meet up with a group and is close to Minturn and Leadville, Colorado. There is also a lot of history in the area. Sometimes it's sunny and warm, and other times we wake up to snow.

Until this trip, we had never driven the Alaska Highway. We traveled north on the Alaska Highway and returned via the Cassiar Highway.Everyone told us to visit Hyder, so we stayed at the town's only campground. When they asked if we had driven up to Salmon Glacier, we realized we couldn't miss it. We extended our stay, picked up groceries, and drove twenty miles up the rough gravel road, climbing more than 4,000 feet before spending the night.The next morning, at 4:00 a.m., I quietly moved the truck camper to a pullout below the summit observation point while my wife slept. As the sun rose, I captured this photo at 5:51 a.m., and we knew it was the one we wanted to enter.

The ferry schedule never allowed enough time, so after driving the Alaska Highway and spending more than a month in Alaska, we finally made the trip.We drove from Glennallen to Tok and partway up the Taylor Highway through torrential rain, thunder, and even lightning. We expected more rain and clouds while boondocking along the Top of the World Highway, but the clouds cleared near sunset. It never really got dark.The next morning, I woke up to frost on the windows and a perfectly clear sky. As the sun began to rise, I jumped out of bed, ran outside in my pajamas, and took a series of photos before diving back under the covers. This was the last photo I took.

We found a great spot on the point to camp for the night and enjoyed an incredible sunset and moonrise. With bad weather expected the following day, most people had already left the island, so we had the beach almost to ourselves. This camper has been perfect for adventures with my kids, from the mountains in the summer to the coast in the spring and fall.

This time, we decided to camp somewhere closer, within an hour of home, and discovered this spot on Bellyache Ridge near Eagle, Colorado.We live about twenty miles east in Edwards and were so close that we could see our friends' house from camp. Mike even brought his motorcycle so he could ride home to feed the animals before returning to camp.We've been mountain biking this trail system for more than a decade but had never considered camping here. It turned out to be an incredible spot with beautiful views, and we spent the weekend enjoying the trails. Since then, we've found several more campsites close to home and have come to appreciate adventures that don't require a long drive at the end of the trip.
