A photographer friend of mine and I had driven down Old Ore Road about a week prior to this photographed scene. I was exploring the park alone on January 16th and realized I could capture an image of my truck camper near sunset with the Sierra Del Carmen Mountains in the background on top of a ridge at the beginning of Old Ore Road. I was very pleased with the results of the image. Big Bend National Park is a large park in West Texas along the Rio Grande River that serves as a natural border with Mexico. I can't wait to return and explore more of the park.

I headed to Alafia River State Park. It is a former phosphate mine that altered the landscape to create the ideal terrain for mountain biking. I was down there for the week to mountain bike and take advantage of the great Florida temperatures in February. This picture was taken on the third night I was there. The full moon came up over the horizon and silhouetted the trees and my truck camper. I had the LED lights of my awning and the lights of my back door porch on, which both complimented the moonlight. I had a great time that week and met a bunch of fellow mountain bikers!

It has legends and my favorite is about a Native American, Great Spirit Manitou, who was unhappy with his people and decided to wash them away. The flood water started to recede. A huge dragon-lizard named Thirst had started to drink up all the water. It became bloated and could not move. Manitou was afraid he would drink up all the water in the world. Manitou turned it to stone. Its image captured in the mountain. A little research and you can read a lot more history. There is beautiful camping there. We were out west on a vacation and a surprise performance for me in New Mexico. Now we’re heading home to Missouri.

I love how the canyon gets narrower and the walls get higher as you continue down the trail with the walls polished smooth from past flash flooding. Then just when you think it can't get any narrower... bam! The canyon opens up to reveal Death Valley in all its splendor. I like to camp near Big Dune just east outside the park to get an early start in Titus Canyon, leaving enough time to explore other parts of Death Valley and find a place to camp before the sun sets.

Then, there was a mistaken turn that took us over the Mexican border at Lukeville, Arizona...having been waved through by the Mexican border guards (in spite of no records for our amazing Australian Shepherd Hula the Wonder Dog). We were on the one of the most dangerous roads in northern Mexico, Route 2, admiring all of the abandoned homes and businesses, blithefully unaware of the danger when we stopped at a Mexican truck stop for some authentic tripe burritos. When we returned to our truck camper, Hula had eaten the GPS. So, we were on our own as we wandered back into the US at Mexicali, spending a night at Anza Borrego and another night at the Salton Sea before chugging up to Joshua Tree which, it turned out, was completely filled up. We know, since we tottered about through all of the camping spaces irritating the folks who had copped a campsite. Frustrated and towards evening, we left the national park in the direction of the town of Joshua Tree without our GPS. A woozy stoner informed us that the land over there was BLM. We actually followed a Class A, who had talked to the same stoner through the rutted roads until we got clear and found an open patch of land, set up our sweet 1967 Avion, poured an adult beverage and watched the sunset on steroids. It could not have been a better evening.

I planned this quite a few months in advance checking all the moon dates to make this shot happen. The conditions needed to be right. My wife and I had done some hiking and kayaking over the weekend with this spot in mind for those activities and photography.I often weekend camp somewhere in this area, and this place usually has no one around; it’s quiet, on a lake with a big mountain backdrop which makes it special. Luckily, we had good clear weather, often not the case for early April in the Eastern Sierra.I have done a good amount of night photography, so I knew what I was after with this shot. What I needed was enough moonlight to show some foreground detail, yet not so much to drown out the stars in the sky.I often use a camper for my photography, and we always mix in activities like hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking, snowboarding, kayaking or a mix of them to round out the days during our trips. Having the Arctic Fox 865 has been such a solid performing, comfortable camper year round. Idaho, Montana and Canada trip coming soon!

It was a great camper and it served our purpose well, but my wife and I are now empty nesters and I wanted more versatility. That included the ability to transport our Honda Talon and have loads of extra storage and less overall weight. On our way from Idaho Falls, ID to Yellowstone National Park, we found this beautiful state park in Eastern Idaho just southwest of Montana to bed down for the night before making our way into our nation’s oldest National Park. As the sun melted behind the mountains and the lake, I saw a great opportunity to capture our temporary home-on-wheels. I took several shots with my iPhone 11 Pro and this was the best representation of the beauty that we experienced that evening.

The campground was spacious and beautiful. Living in Reno, Nevada, it is not too long of a journey to get to Eagle Lake and we had not been there in a very long time. Whereas the water levels were significantly down, the trees were healthy looking after the previous year forest fires. It appeared the area had not been touched but had been very close in proximity. Even though the water levels had dropped, the eagles were flying and the bird life was abundant. The campground was quiet with the trees casting beautiful long shadows. I was very pleased with the experience. I believe the photo displays the beauty of this campsite.

It was a great experience learning the features of the popup. It’s easy to setup and easy to take down. We descended into Hamilton but were still at roughly 7000 feet. It’s an old mining town. We stopped in the cemetery and noticed that many of the grave stones were marked the date of death in 1907. The structures were numerous with the first one we stopped at we could get the shot with the truck framed by the archway of the entrance.

We know this, so mid-winter I started looking for an alternative beach we could visit. With some help from YouTube, I saw this beach. This is Sandy Neck Beach in Cape Cod in a town called Barnstable. I looked it up on the net and also called the gatehouse. The people there were very helpful. I applied for a nonresident permit, received it and made the plans. We were there for four days and had a great time. We also met some really nice people. Being from New York and staying in Massachusetts we did not talk about sports. We will go there again next year.
