We stayed at the Ace of Diamonds Mine campground and spent the day cracking rocks and sifting dirt in the sluice to find the crystals, and everyone found some! It was great fun and highly recommended for something to do with friends.

There were several boondocking options in the nearby Carson National Forest with no one else around and sweeping views. The land there is quite magical.

These are the last remnants of the sedimentary rock layers that once covered the entire region. It straddles the border of Arizona and Utah. In dozens of films stretching back almost a century, Monument Valley has stood as a symbol of the American West.In our humble opinion, Monument Valley is one of the most underrated vacation destinations. It's appeal is dwarfed by the likes of Zion National Park, Arches National Park, Bryce Cannon National Park and others. We've been to them all! Monument Valley is clearly the winner when it comes to being able to relax, travel at your own pace, meet the Natives and simply enjoy the wonderfully strange landscapes. We will return someday!

We had raced at Heart O' Texas Speedway in Elm Mott, Texas the night before and had to check everything on the car before the races that night at Kennedale Speedway Park. I was sitting in the car while AJ worked on the brakes. In the Texas heat, we were able to go into our camper and cool off, which made everything so much better.

We are parked in front of Bear Glacier and have seen many bears in this area and beside the road between Meziadin Junction and Stewart, British Columbia. We camp in Meziadin Provincial Park and drive down Highway 37A for the beautiful scenery, glaciers, waterfalls, and our favorite find - bears! We have seen many grizzly and black bears with cubs on this road in the early spring and fall.

We were the only ones there this time, except for the variety of waterfowl and antelope. I missed the golden hour because we were out walking, but could not resist getting a few photos afterward. The sky and lake were gorgeous!

While we were on a trip to Ocala, Florida, friends of ours called and said they'd be in Tampa. They were entered into the Dirt Car Nationals at Eastbay Raceway. Given the flexibility and freedom a camper provides, we pulled up jacks and made the two hour trip to the track. The track allowed RVs to camp overnight (no hookups). We were all set. This picture is of my Lance 975 at night after the main event. I like how the lights, the darkness, and trees all interacted to make a decent picture for a spur of the moment shot.

On one of the nights we knew a basic area we wanted to camp. We were not sure if we would camp at Lost Creek State Park, but wanted to go there to check the place out and find a couple geocaches. Once we arrived and looked around we decided to go ahead and stay the night there. The geology of the place was very interesting and pretty. On that summer day, the night temperatures were nice and cool since we were fairly high in elevation at the campground, around 6000 feet.

We meet somewhere in the middle. This summer we met him in Colorado. When we drove home, we decided to drive south through New Mexico and Texas. The second largest canyon in the United States is just outside of Amarillo, Texas.It was beyond beautiful and camping in the canyon was one of the best memories of the trip. We ended up staying an extra day, hiking the canyon and learning the history.The kids have been to amusement parks and stayed in fancy hotels, but they constantly talk about all the places we’ve camped and traveled to in out truck camper.

The town and surrounding areas were completely packed for Labor Day Weekend, so I continued east to Valley of the Gods. There, I parked and explored the area on my motorcycle, before heading back to Arizona.

As we were nearing the top of the drive, the sunlight hit underneath the storm clouds and produced a brilliant double rainbow. Dodging rain drops on the lens I was able to capture a few images of this stunning sight!

It had snowed around a foot there less than a week prior and snow is still visible on the sides of the tunnel. This was a shot I'd been wanting to take for quite awhile. The tunnel is quite narrow and the photo gives the illusion that a pickup might not fit!

It was rather poetic seeing this landmark of the Oregon Trail at sunset after traversing the desolate plains of Nebraska all day long. It was easy to imagine how the early pioneers felt seeing that towering monolith as quite a shift in the landscape from the monotonous, seemingly never-ending prairie. It was also a refreshing reminder to us of an exciting change in scenery and the Rockies were not far away!

Across the road was this beautiful creek where we walked over every day, sat on the rocks, rolled up our pant legs and dangled our feet in the cool mountain water. Seeing the wooden bridge over the creek surrounded by beautiful trees could only mean one thing! A photo entry for TCM!

Temperatures were well below freezing at night and during the day but we were toasty warm inside the camper. We were the only campers in the campground and is was very quiet and peaceful.We hiked all of the wonderful trails in the park and came across a couple who were cross country skiing on the trails. I forgot our snowshoes so we just hiked in our insulated hiking boots (sorry, Marci).We also drove up to Snowshoe Mountain while we were in the area and spent the day walking around the village and seeing the sites. We had a great lunch in town and then headed back. The lodge at Canaan Valley had the absolute best Christmas buffet dinner we have ever had. We highly recommend staying there over the holidays!

Unfortunately, it was an 86-degree day on a sunny July Sunday and the place was packed full. So we headed down CR 12 and found a nice large pull out next to a beautiful stream. It turned out, it was a popular spot for local fly fisherman, so we had some friendly visitors. Also, this spot is directly across the road from Horse Ranch Park which is a nice equestrian campground. People would bring their horses down to the stream in the evening to let the horses drink their fill which was more entertainment.

This photo is an example at 11,000 feet of elevation and it was still an uncomfortable 88 degrees! The pass is located on Highway 40 nearly half way between Interstate 70 and Granby.
