Scout, Northern Lite, Skinny Guy and Hellwig Products unveil four extreme truck and camper rigs at SEMA Show 2022. Leave your practical mind behind and live a little. It’s SEMA Show 2022. Ya-hooo!
Starting six years ago with Lance and Hellwig’s wild and aptly named Rule Breaker rig, the truck camper industry took serious notice of the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas. Until then the annual industry-only event was viewed as outside the scope of the truck camper marketplace. How times have changed.
Today, SEMA is brimming with over-the-top Overland builds of every description. And let’s not kid ourselves here. These overland rigs are not designed solely to attract devout truck camper fans. Oh no. These lash-ups have been created – often at great expense – to capture media attention far outside our core community. Think Car and Driver, Road and Track, Motortrend, Men’s Journal, GearJunkie, and beyond.
While we wouldn’t present these rigs as anything other than show ponies, they’re a lot of fun to look at. Payload matched? Not really. Lifted a little bit too much. Yep. But that’s all part of the SEMA spectacle. Leave your practical mind behind and live a little. It’s SEMA 2022!

In a notable choice spot in the North Hall, Northern Lite presented a 2022 GMC Sierra 3500 AT4 with a 2023 Northern Lite 10-2 EX Limited Edition.
The 2022 GMC Sierra 3500 AT4 features premium black chrome accents, side bed step, and tell-tale red recovery hooks. Northern Lite added 20-inch red-accent wheels, 35-inch BF Goodrich KO2 All-Terrain tires, and their feather logo in red.
For suspension, the Northern Lite truck featured Torklift International Upper StableLoads, Firestone airbags, and a 3-inch BDS lift kit. To top off this SEMA truck and camper Northern Lite added a 42-inch Torklift International SuperHitch, a Yakima Backswing, and a Swagman storage rack.
It’s hard to imagine the automotive press checking out this Northern Lite 10-2 EX Limited Edition and not having their stuffy socks roll up and down. That’s one sweet set-up.
Skinny Guy dropped a menacing 2022 Toyota Tundra with a Stage 3 Build from Tactical Application Vehicles (TAV), Bowen Customs bed, and a Skinny Guy 6.5 Kit’N Kaboodle.
The TAV build includes King Shocks with remote reservoir and coilover, Magnuson super charger, Moog replacement tie rod ends, and 37-inch Toyo Open Country tires.
This tricked-out truck and camper are ready to drive straight out of the Las Vegas Convention Center and onto the Valley of Fire OHV loop.
For their SEMA debut, Adventurer Manufacturing assembled a 2023 Scout Kenai truck camper with a 2022 Ford F-350. The one-ton sports a gorgeous Bowen Customs bed and a full Liquid Springs system by Elevation Off-Grid.
The 2023 Kenai showcases Scout’s all-composite construction and new for 2023 front bunk windows, gear-ready roof rack, roof top tent, light bar-style clearance lights, low profile door latches, auxiliary solar plug, and propane quick-disconnect.
Hellwig Products partnered with Ford Motor Company to create a “double-duty” concept designed to satisfy the needs of a working truck during the week, and to transition into an off-road ready camper for the weekend. This rig debuted at the SEMA 2021, but deserves another look.

Hellwig based the build on a 2021 Ford F-150 XLT Super Crew with the 3.5-liter PowerBoost hybrid V6 and the FX4 off-road package.

With Hellwig sway bars front and rear, Pro Series helper springs, and an Icon Stage 4+ suspension system, this is one highly versatile work-play machine. Did we mention the 37-inch Falken all-terrain tires and Icon alloy wheels?
