This photo was taken over the Fourth of July at my sister’s place in Stone Lake, Wisconsin. It’s the family farm where my grandma grew up, married my grandpa, and raised their three kids. The farm is still in the family, and we continue to celebrate the Fourth of July there every year with our kids, grandkids, cousins, and friends.
Storms rolled through earlier that morning, but the skies cleared just in time for us to relax by the lake with beautiful blue skies and calm water.
This was only our second trip with the camper since picking it up in May, so we were still figuring out where everything goes and getting a feel for the setup. It’s hard to beat camping on land that’s been in the family for generations, especially with a lake view behind the truck.

In April, we stayed at The View Campground in Monument Valley. The views were stunning from every angle, with incredible sunsets, stars, and clear skies. We explored the park in our Honda CR-V, which handled the roads without any issues.
One morning, my husband, Greg, woke up early and spotted the moon through the window. He knew he had to capture it behind Merrick Butte before the sun came up. Other campers soon came outside, but Greg held his ground and captured the perfect shot.

On our way to Alaska this year, we stopped to take a picture of our rig with my favorite old airplane, a DC-3 on a post. It’s the world’s largest weathervane and actually moves with the wind.

This was a four-hour 4×4 drive along the many forest service roads of northern Vancouver Island. We arrived at an empty beach just as the sun was setting. It felt like we had been transported back to 1972.

This past June, I traveled from Washington State to Utah to help my daughter relocate. During the trip, we took a day to relax and drive out to the Bonneville Salt Flats. We had visited several times before, but the flats were always wet. This time, they were completely dry, allowing us to venture out onto the vast landscape and truly appreciate the incredible scenery.
The Bonneville Salt Flats are located just off I-80 near the Utah-Nevada border, with easy access from the highway. If your travels take you through this part of Utah, they’re definitely worth a stop.

I was in the middle of a two-and-a-half-month, cross-country, bucket-list, post-retirement trek that started in Arlington, Virginia. Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park in Northern California was the farthest point from home as I began working my way back. I took this picture in the park’s Simpson-Reed Grove to show my friends and family the incredible scale of the redwood trees.

We were on our way back to Colorado from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and needed a place to stop for the night. We took non-interstate routes when possible, including US 36. Brown State Fishing Lake was a free campground not far from the highway and almost deserted. With no wind, the calm conditions made for a perfect picture. We were the only ones camping there that night. Yay!

We drove the road to McCarthy, Alaska, to see the Kennecott Mines and camped at Base Camp Kennicott in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. The flowers had all turned to seed pods and surrounded our camper, making for a pretty cool photo.
