This was a two-night camping trip to Douglas Lake in eastern Tennessee at a Hipcamp location just a couple of hours from our home in Chattanooga. Although we had electric and water hookups, we spent Saturday testing our lithium batteries by running the 12-volt air conditioner. The sunset was incredible, and being in the right place at the right time allowed us to capture this beautiful view.

We camped here for three nights just outside Denali National Park while waiting for our reservation at Teklanika Campground. We picked one of the wettest Julys in years to visit Alaska, and while it was a soggy experience, we were fortunate enough to join the 30 percent club and see Mount McKinley. That made it all worthwhile.

By this point, I had spent twenty days traveling in the Alaskan camper. We decided to find the most remote beach we could reach with our 4x4s. After five hours on single-lane logging roads, we discovered this secluded cove. As soon as I found a place to park, I jumped out to photograph the truck. It felt like we had traveled back to 1970, driving on the sand with no one else around.

After our son finished fourth grade, we planned an epic thirty-six-day road trip to twelve national parks. This photo was taken at the top of Shafer Trail, which turned out to be the last off-road adventure for our old truck. On the climb back out, she struggled for power, and we pushed her to the limit. After stalling at the visitor center, we made a few roadside repairs and managed to drive all the way home to Maryland. She’ll spend her retirement hauling our family of four on shorter, less demanding camping trips along the East Coast. If you drive Shafer Trail, we highly recommend staying at Dead Horse Point State Park instead of the Island in the Sky Campground for incredible dark skies and beautiful sunset views.

We got hailed out of our Lost Coast backpacking trip in April, so we changed plans and hit the road with no real destination. Starting in Southern California, we eventually made it all the way to Oregon.

We were on our way home to North Carolina after picking up our Lance in Bozeman, Montana. This photo was taken late one afternoon at a wonderful Harvest Hosts winery in WaKeeney, Kansas. And yes, Kansas is flat!

Memorial Day weekend is the first time each year that we take out the jet skis. We were looking for a campsite close to the water, but nearly every spot was already taken by large groups with trailers. We found a small flat spot between two fingers of the lake and were able to drive right in. That’s one of the things we love most about our truck camper. It fits into places that larger rigs can’t. Camp Far West Lake was also the first place we took the camper after buying it two years earlier.

This is our go-to spot for a quick, last-minute camping trip. Perazzo Meadows is just north of Truckee, California, and only about 30 minutes from our house. It’s public land, so there are plenty of places to camp. This photo was taken at sunrise around 6:30 a.m.

We were driving the Whiteface Veterans Memorial Highway on our way to the summit and stopped to enjoy the views. As we walked back to the truck, I noticed the truck and camper were perfectly framed by the scenery. I simply love the black-on-black look of my camper with the truck. We were spending five days exploring the Lake Placid and Saranac Lake area.
