As we made our way home from a loop through southern Colorado, we returned to Hartman Rocks to camp at a spot we couldn’t reach a couple of years earlier when we had a towable camper. On our last night in Colorado, we watched the sunset over the many layers of the landscape. By complete accident, I realized I was standing in the perfect position to capture what has become my favorite photo of any of our campers.

I took a long weekend to unwind with some drum fishing at Cape Lookout. We found a great spot on the point to camp for the night and enjoyed an incredible sunset and moonrise. With bad weather expected the following day, most people had already left the island, so we had the beach almost to ourselves. This camper has been perfect for adventures with my kids, from the mountains in the summer to the coast in the spring and fall.

This is our first truck camper. We drove 200 miles round trip to buy this 1973 Bell slide-in camper. After bringing it home, we spent a month renovating the interior, and now it’s our family’s camper. This photo was taken just after we purchased it in Anaconda. The truck carrying it belonged to my grandfather, who bought it brand new before passing it down to me. It’s a 1995 Ford F-250 with the legendary 7.3L Power Stroke diesel.

We camp at Seneca Shadows Campground near Seneca Rocks every May. This was our first trip with our new puppy, Hank. We always enjoy spending time in this beautiful area, and this trip made it even more memorable.

This photo was taken during a trip through Baja. We found a campsite near an incredible surf break, and a beautiful mist rolled in, creating an unforgettable scene. It was one of the highlights of our eight-month journey through Baja and mainland Mexico.

We often travel with our friends in their Cirrus 820, but our trips usually take us far from home. This time, we decided to camp somewhere closer, within an hour of home, and discovered this spot on Bellyache Ridge near Eagle, Colorado.

We live about twenty miles east in Edwards and were so close that we could see our friends’ house from camp. Mike even brought his motorcycle so he could ride home to feed the animals before returning to camp.

We’ve been mountain biking this trail system for more than a decade but had never considered camping here. It turned out to be an incredible spot with beautiful views, and we spent the weekend enjoying the trails. Since then, we’ve found several more campsites close to home and have come to appreciate adventures that don’t require a long drive at the end of the trip.
