This was our first camping experience after purchasing the camper and going full-time on the road. This was a cancellation and the only lakeside camp spot available in the area that week. Meant to be!

Day three of a 45 day tour of the Great Basin and South West; we were enjoying the fall colors mid-elevation at Great Basin National Park in Eastern Nevada. The leaves of the Aspen sparkled like a million gold Dollars fluttering in a light breeze.

My husband, Matt, and I were traveling south in Utah after visiting our son in Salt Lake City. We love the red rocks and canyons of southern Utah and the deserts of Arizona. We especially enjoy them in the late winter or early spring and fall. The scenery is gorgeous, crowds are virtually non-existent, and the weather is cool or just a bit warm which is perfect for hiking and exploring.

We drove south from the Goblin Valley area after hiking Little Wild Horse Slot Canyon on Route 24 and found a mostly deserted campground (there was one other camper about 1/4 mile away from us) in the Glen Canyon National Recreation area near Hite, Utah. It was an amazing location. The canyon cliffs and buttes loomed above us and the space was wide open. The lake has receded enormously with the ongoing drought in this area, so this campground which was formerly a marina is no longer anywhere near the water – therefore, not particularly popular with boaters anymore. As we hiked around we found lots of shells from when the lake was higher. The sky was clear and the moon was full. A truly memorable stop.

Alberta Crownland camping. We found this sweet spot way up in the hills and could see for miles down the valley. We stayed for three nights and only saw two other quads. We nicknamed it “Risotto Ridge” because the mushroom risotto with the view at sunset was spectacular!
