Window Awnings For Rain, Shade, and Privacy
2003 Ford F-350
2017 Adventurer 86FB
My camper came equipped with the traditional slider-style windows. I wanted a way to reduce the possibility of rain coming in during inclement weather.
Above: Before the modification
I purchased two Carefree window awnings and installed one on the driver’s side window by the kitchen and the other on the passenger’s side window by the dinette. The awnings came premade, so it was just a matter of installing them per Carefree’s instructions.
My wife and I have enjoyed this mod immensely. The original intention was to keep the rain out. However, after having them installed for a while, we noticed that it’s definitely cooler in the camper due to the additional shade provided by the awnings.
Another pleasant surprise was increased privacy as we can now leave the window blinds up with the windows open for ventilation and the awnings provide decent privacy.
The materials needed were two Carefree window awnings (sized to fit my camper windows) one tube of Sikaflex-221, and a Camco 42544 Easy Reach Awning Opener. It was all purchased from Amazon.
It took me 1.5 hours per side to complete this modification and cost me $522.
