Truck Camper Ladder Fold Up
2021 RAM 2500
1980s Maine Camper
This is a pretty simple mod to access your truck camper.
I was originally using a small step stool to access the truck camper. It was quite unstable on rough surfaces and a pain to store when traveling. A solution was needed.
I bought a small aluminum step ladder at a big box hardware store. Then my cordless drill and hack saw had at it. It was disassembled and shortened to the size I needed.
A couple of pieces of angle iron, some steel bars, and a few stainless steel nuts and bolts were used to create a hinge.
A simple garden gate lock keeps it secured in the up position while traveling.
This entire modification was done in a Lowe’s parking lot while on a cross-country trip.
Access into the camper is now a thousand times easier. Dirt, water, and snow are not carried into the camper when the ladder is stored for travel. An added benefit is that dirt and dust are shaken off once stored and underway.
The only things I bought for this modification were the ladder and hardware. It took me three hours to complete this modification and cost me $75.
