Swing-Out Bike Rack Extension
2021 Ford F-350
2021 Wolf Creek 840
The reason for building a bike rack swing out with an extension was to access the truck camper, but also to clear our Fox Landing without removing our bike rack or needing to unload our bikes.
Although many bike rack manufacturers have some kind of swing out, none have a swing out for a truck camper set up. Every single one made would need to be a custom fabrication because of the possible truck and truck camper combinations.
For this project, I fabricated and welded a hitch-mount bike rack swing out. I measured and designed the hitch mount with 3×3 square tubing.
It had to be sturdy enough to clear the Fox Landing and mount a One Up Bike Rack to securely carry our mountain bikes.
So far the swing out has worked out great. I have driven from California to Colorado without any issues. It has been a game-changer set-up for sure.
The square tubing and latch were purchased at Industrial Metal Supply. An anti-wobble was purchased at Riverside Hitch and Trailer. The One Up Bike Rack was purchased on their website.
It took me twenty hours to complete this modification and cost me $300.
