I wanted a way to store dirty items outside the camper—such as the rug and leveling blocks—to prevent dirt from getting inside the unit while still being able to tow my boat or side-by-side.
I fabricated a storage rack utilizing a steel military box. The step on the driver’s side acts as a step to get in and out of the camper easily. The step on the passenger’s side allows me to secure my generator for remote camping.
This mod has been great at storing our dirty items outside of our living space and for hauling the generator with us to remote sites.
I purchased the box from Facebook marketplace for $60. The scrap diamond plate steel plates were from from Alro outlet ($40). The one-quart can of truck bed liner paint was from Tractor Supply ($30 on clearance). The two stabilizer jacks were from an RV salvage place ($30 for both), and a friend of mine had the square tubing (free).
It took me ten hours to complete this modification and cost me $160.
