Maximizing Dinky Drawers
2019 Ram 3500
2017 Palomino SS-1200
My dinky Palomino drawers were absolutely jam-packed. One of my goals for all my camper mods is to maximize any wasted storage space. I sure have found a bunch in my camper.
I took the drawers apart, installed longer side rails, and drawer bottoms. To do this I needed a table saw, brad nailer, and wood glue. I had an inventory of not quite scrap-worthy 3/8-inch plywood that was utilized. In the photo comparing the two drawers and additional storage gained, you’ll notice that I did scab some thinner side rail material on the one drawer as I ran out of 3/8-inch.
I glued all contact surfaces prior to nailing. I, therefore, chose not to change out the drawer slider assemblies to longer versions.
The mod has worked out great. I now have room for my long kitchen knife! At least it’s not laying at a 45-degree angle in the drawer anymore. Increasing the length of the other drawers has allowed for more concise organization of my debris.
It took me four hours to complete this modification and cost me $5. In my opinion, the skill level of this modification is easy.
