I was having difficulty finding a lightweight, simple-to-deploy, and easy-to-store sunshade.

I purchased a Camp Awn Shelter from Mountain Hardware which is made of 68D PU-coated waterproof polyester ripstop.

It came complete with two thick aluminum poles with adjustable heights up to ten feet and ten stakes with adjustable cording.

I’m a big fan of Seasucker products and always have a few of their suction cups onboard to keep my microwave from moving while underway. I also use their suction cups for mounting exterior drink holders and interior and exterior tie-downs.

For a quick drill-free mount, I threaded two eye bolts into the Seasucker mounts and attached them to the outside of the camper. They are also available with attached D-rings which would probably work even better.

I then clipped the Camp Awn Shelter to the eye bolts with two stainless carabiners. Next, I installed the poles into the middle grommets and staked them out with the attached cords to keep them upright.

The awning can then be folded in half and attached back to the suction cups on the camper. If more shelter is needed, it can be staked on an angle downward and outward.

It takes me ten minutes to deploy the shade by myself. It’s lightweight and works well for my needs.

Materials Used:
Camp Awn Shelter ($119)
Seasucker with Stainless Steel D-Ring ($59 each)

It took me one hour to complete this modification and cost me under $200.
