Cabinet Storage Hack
2005 Nissan Titan
2023 Palomino SS-1240
The upper cabinetry in Palomino pop-up campers have become soft storage cubicles that hang from the ceiling. While these are effective, they lack visual appeal and are a bit of a pain for me and the Mrs.
Having more cabinet space was desirable, so I created this simple mod. All you need to complete this project is a screwdriver.
There are two panels on the Palomino SS-1240 sink cabinet. The panels are held on with hinges located at the cabinet top and the bottom securing the door closed.
Inside the cabinets—on the right side—is the water heater. On the left side is the controller for the roof actuators and camper jacks. There’s a lot of room in there that isn’t being utilized.
The mod itself is as simple as removing the cabinet doors, moving the hinges to one side, and re-installing them. That’s it!
I made the cabinets open to the center (left and right) and moved the new door up 3/4″ to hide the holes left from the original mounting. I did the whole thing in about 20 minutes with a regular screwdriver—not even a powered one!
I added magnetic closure dots to hold them closed, and didn’t even bother with cabinet handles. I also had some scrap flooring, which I made the cabinet liner with.
This mod has been fantastic! We keep all of our pantry breads, dry goods, and snacks in the cabinets. Be careful not to put in anything that could impact, hamper, or damage the equipment that is in that cabinet. I don’t store anything heavy or metal in there.
All I needed was a screwdriver and optional Scrap Flooring Planks (for a liner). It took me 20 minutes to complete this modification and cost me nothing.
