We did further research and made some phone calls to the national park prior to heading out on July 21st. We were excited to be going on vacation to an isolated location which seemed to be a perfect getaway especially during a pandemic. This photo was taken as the sun was rising after spending our first night on the island and having endured a whopper of a storm. We caught a lot of fish and thankfully, didn't get stuck in the sand! The entire experience was awesome and we would highly recommend this type of remote camping. Just be sure to remember your bug spray, fly swatter, shovel, and sunscreen!

We spent our evening by the fire listening to the birds off in the distance.

On Saturday night it was a beautiful evening so I drove to a nearby beauty spot to make my dinner and watch the sunset. I didn’t want to leave and figured the sunrise would be beautiful, so I just went to bed on the roadside. This is the view I woke up to at 5.30am and had to grab a photo.

I found a good looking Forest Service Road on the map to a wild lake camp spot. I thought it would be a good idea and spent the night by the lake, but the drive out was much rougher and steeper than expected. It was not a fun experience the first time driving a truck camper, but it sure was scenic!

We wanted to make sure it all the systems worked before we took any trips farther away. As a hobby, I enjoy photographing some of the remaining heritage of Saskatchewan and capture what's left before it's gone. I'm happy to say everything worked out over that weekend, but in Saskatchewan the weather can be quite extreme. We had winds that were non-stop that were anywhere from 60-80 km/h (40-50 mph) over those days. But, it still beats sitting at home!

We then took Route 9 to Kremmling, Highway 40 to Grandby, and then Route 34 up to Grand Lake where we entered the Rocky Mountain National Forest and drove the Trail Ridge Road to Estes Park. This has got to be one of the most scenic drives through Colorado, and we highly recommend it. You could do it all in one day if you pushed it, but why? We did it in two days and stopped at most of the scenic lookouts to take pictures and enjoy the beauty. We took hundreds of spectacular scenery pictures, but only a few with our camper in them. Next time we go through Colorado we want to take the same route again, just going from north to south next time.

We made a rule that when we are traveling on the road to our destination we would stop by 3:30pm every day no matter we’re we were and find a campsite. In the past we have wasted so much time and frustration to find the perfect spot. It ends up getting late and we don’t enjoy the area. Stopping at 3:30 gives us time to setup for the evening and check out a place we would have probably never stopped at. This time we ended up in Sundre, Alberta where we found a campground on the edge of town called Greenwood Park Campground. There was a spot available backing up to the Red Deer river. After we parked, we went for a walk around the grounds. It was beautiful with wood carvings of animals all over, a community fire pit area, and walking trails. After having a bite to eat we set out on our chairs and watched the river as kayakers floated by and wildlife came to visit the water.

It’s BLM land off of Highway 95. It was hot and humid, but very peaceful! Antelope can usually be seen grazing in the fields on the opposite side of the lake. This day, however, there was a storm brewing close to the hills next to the lake; there were ducks and geese on the water but no larger wildlife to be seen. The sky was full of beautiful, majestic clouds and I was happy that I had my cellphone to use for shooting photos. I usually bring my Nikon on any truck camping journey, but this was a business trip so I left it at home. The storm was moving fast, so we hurried inside our truck camper, shutting vents and large windows. It was not a minute too soon. Thunder, lightening, wind and rain were upon us. It did not last long, maybe 20 minutes. The storm had passed and the sun was peeking through the clouds so we ventured outside to survey the landscape. It was gorgeous! The water was calm and very dark, and there was even a rainbow!

I found a couple of dispersed campsites on Rt14 west of Burgess Junction. When I got up there, I stopped to ask a couple guys coming out the Forest Service Road if there was any good camping up the road. They said it was very crowded. I asked if they knew of any other spots. They asked if I had a dog and I said no, I didn’t bring my dogs with me. They said I was welcome to camp near them up in the alpine meadow. So I followed them west on RT14 to the FS10, Hunt Mountain Road. We drove a couple miles up the road to the field of wild flowers. What a beautiful location.

In fact, just three days prior to our visit Death Valley, an all time record temperature of 130 degrees was set! However, our new Lance 1172 provided a cool escape with its on board generator and air conditioning! Eureka Valley Sand Dunes is a serene and amazing spot. We did the full tour and walked around the property. It also had a cemetery there for the founders kin. The plantation is still owned by the original founders descendants. When we walked around the marsh area, what we first thought were bugs crawling all over the ground, when we looked closer, they were indeed little land crabs. They move quickly from side to side and hide in little holes in the ground if threatened. It is a beautiful place to visit. The Spanish moss growing on the oak trees that cover the road to the parking area is quite the experience. We recommend a visit for anyone traveling in the area.

There were very many beautiful sites over landscapes that were breath taking. This particular photo is near Lyndon, Vermont. The bridge was closed to traffic and no vehicles are supposed to go through it, especially heavy ones like a truck camper. Though it appears we are coming out, we are actually just turning around to go back where we came from. We took several pictures around the area, and enjoyed the the lovely smell of the old wood used to carve these bridges. The only thing we regret is that the leaves on the trees were not quite turning their beautiful fall color. We were looking to capture them in a photo.

Traveling to explore Utah, our first stop was the Bonneville Salt Flats. When we entered, there were many campers in the lower area. Wanting to be more socially distant, we drove up into the mountains, following the roads less traveled. The condition of the road was poor at best, but we took it slow and were rewarded with this - a view to the west of the setting sun and views to the east of the rising full moon, and surrounded by mountains! Photos don’t do it justice, but I did my best. We enjoyed a very quiet night, wonderful hikes and memories that will stay with us forever. We love our truck camper.
