This is a free camping spot along the East Cape in southern Baja. It’s close to Cabo, but a world away. We enjoyed watching humpback whales during the day breaching offshore and many great sunsets.

This was our first actual snow camp ever and it was an amazing experience! It was cold but not unbearable and being under the trees with snow coming down is an experience in itself.

Yosemite National Park is beautiful all year round, but there’s something quite magical in the winter. The Half Dome and El Capitan covered in snow, the river lined with trees drenched in white, the crisp air… We had been there on day trips before, but ever since we got our camper, we have wanted to camp there.
Winter seemed like the perfect time, so we went up in February during the middle of the week. One of the locations that I have always wanted to photograph in the winter is “Valley View”, so we found a little parking area close by and parked the camper. I was literally in awe of the view! Spectacular. Magnificent. Amazing. What a blessing to be able to witness Valley View in the winter.
And to top it off, once I snapped all my photos, I was able to get back into our camper and have a cup of coffee and just sit back and take it all in. Ah, the joys of retirement.

Driving back to California from Arizona in the wind and rain we chose to camp and rest at Sawtooth Canyon. We enjoyed the freshly washed desert as the sun came out to shine on the sawtooth-sculptured rock formations in the area. The area formations are popular with rock climbers who’ve dubbed this place New Jack City. Pres and I first got to know each other rock climbing in college. Those days are long behind us, but we enjoy watching others tackle the challenge. The changing sun and moonlight constantly created new colors and shadows on the rocks which we enjoyed while hiking or from our camping chair view.

I came from Illinois to meet up with my Mother from Florida. We got together with her and her husband, my son, and his fiance for lunch. We all hung out at the dunes for the day. At the end of the day, I got a campsite at the state park there. I unloaded my Harley that was in the trailer and rode around near the Lake Michigan Lake Shore.

We always take a month-long time in mid-October from Alaska to the Lower 48 to extend our fall. Last year we explored a lot of the Idaho backcountry. This picture was taken off of a Forest Service road and the fog was thick. What a beautiful morning!

The photo was taken at Aguirre Springs Campground in the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument east of Las Cruces, New Mexico. The view behind the campsite was the rock spires of Organ Mountains, and the view in front and miles below was the White Sands National Park. The campsite was accessed via a very narrow and steep winding road recommended for rigs under 23 feet long.

Tuweep campground, in the Toroweap area of the Grand Canyon’s north rim, is 61 miles off pavement. The last few miles definitely required four wheel drive in spots. This is one of the few places one can see the Colorado River from the canyon rim. A lucky lottery entry at recreation.gov four months in advance secured me a permit to this scenic off-road paradise. I took this photo from a small hill near my campsite.
In contrast to the usual situation, my Four Wheel Camper rig was one of the largest, best-outfitted rigs there. If I stay in a campground, I am usually surrounded by giant RVs. Here, I saw only pickups with roof-mounted tents or off-road trailers. I had a great time with great neighbors.

This was on a five day trip through Northeast Iowa. We stayed at Bailey’s Ford Park campground with these beautiful blooming lilac bushes. I even picked a few and brought them in the camper that night.
My grandparents bought the truck new and ordered it from the Omaha Boats Sports and Travel Show with a 10.5′ Camp Mate. They upgraded eventually to a motorhome but Grandpa always kept the truck. When I bought it, it had not been out of the garage in over ten years.

After a short rainfall where the road to the old Paria Movie Set turned to a slurry of red clay, we waited for the road to dry out and then made our way down closer to the river and found this perfect campsite. As the sun angle got lower, the rock formations to the east just glowed with color (part of the Petrified Forest Member of the Chinle Formation topped by Wingate Sandstone). We actually saw a glimpse of the Aurora Borealis that night followed by a million desert stars!

This photo was along the old sand coast road northeast of San Jose del Cabo. It was my first real beach camp and had amazing whale activity.
I’ve been searching for a true four season truck camper for several years without a lot of luck. I’ve had a couple of campers that claimed to be four season, but basing out of Colorado proved they weren’t Rockies four season.
In February 2023, I found a listing for some Total Composite Expedition panels. These panels are substantially thicker then the panels Andreas uses for his normal truck campers. After getting the back story on the panels (originally purchased years ago by Tiger vehicles) and verifying with Andreas, I took the plunge. I rented shop space and began gathering the necessary equipment and supplies to start assembling in November 2023.
My goal was to assemble the panels and have the camper road-worthy by the end of February 2024 in order to meet some friends in Baja. It was a bit of work but I was able to get the camper buttoned up, roof hatch, roof fan, lithium batteries, solar, lights, and basic electrical installed in order to get on the road. I’ve been wanting to get back to Baja since my last trip a couple of years ago and spend time exploring the more remote areas in Baja California Sur. It took me almost 2 km to get down to La Paz to meet some friends, but I made it and spent the next six weeks exploring dirt roads, coastline, and sections of the Baja Divide Trail. It was a great shakedown trip and just scratched the surface of Baja Sur. I plan to head back in February 2025 for round two as well as to head down to Sonora in October/November for another shakedown trip after some additional mods.

Antelope Reservoir has become a favorite place to stop for a night whenever our trip takes us along Highway 95 in southeast Oregon. It is BLM land, so it is very quiet and there are rarely more than one or two other campers there whenever we go. We have met fellow truck campers, witnessed two trucks getting stuck in the lake mud, as well as their rescue trucks (a large tow truck eventually had to drag them all out!), and seen many a waterfowl and herds of antelope. The sunrises and sunsets are always spectacular!

This is from elk hunting in the backcountry. It was a little cold and snowy that day. Bike riding in the mountains was a challenge.
