This was an inspiring place. Being an artist, I was awestruck that there were views in every direction. I stayed four nights at this spot next to a babbling creek with an incredible starry night sky and painted quite a few studies.

To escape the 100-degree heat in Texas, Vicki and I decided to tour cool Idaho. I had driven I-90 before and became enamored with the Coeur d’Alene area and lake. This picture was taken atop Lemhi Pass, near Salmon, Idaho, where Sacajawea led the Lewis and Clark Expedition in search of a waterway to the Pacific coast. It was 42 degrees. The backroad going up was extremely rough and steep, but a very beautiful, slow drive.

Heading to Dead Horse Point, Utah, we were looking for a quiet remote location on BLM land, where our dog could have some fun too. When we could not go further with the pickup, we observed the great vista all the way to the other side of this small canyon. Great weather, snow could be seen on distant summits.

The Ruby Mountain range is one of the least explored and majestic ranges of mountains in America. Over a span of 25-plus years, I worked in constructing projects in a number of mines in this area. I crossed the Rubies several times.

On our trip to Oregon for repairs on our Host Camper at Dan Penington’s shop, we decided to camp in Thomas Canyon. The National Forest campground of 40 spaces was booked. It is nearly always booked. We were lucky to get a spot and stay there one night. The following morning we decided to take our jeep up the canyon to find a place or places to hike. We encountered the snow cut and stopped. We looked and measured the width of a few sections and moved one huge rock. Then, we made the choice of, “Yes, we can make it!” We drove back to the camper, packed up, and drove up. Chris drove through first and guided our 8-foot, 6-inch camper through as narrow as a 9-foot 8-inch gap in a few spots. It took a few minutes, but no rubs! We made it! FYI, the top of the canyon is stunning. We hiked nine-plus miles over two hikes and about a 5000 feet rise over both.

This was the day we picked up our camper in Houston, Texas. We had driven two days from Minnesota to purchase it, sight unseen. We drove straight to Galveston and camped for free near Surfside. The weather was perfect in April for our first-time beach camping!

While traveling and camping all around the Pacific Northwest my wife and I decided to include a visit to a mountain I had climbed earlier in my life and had promised to return to one day. So we returned to Mount Rainier not to summit, but to hike around and camp on the flanks of this incredible and formidable mountain. Lush with wildflowers and streams and rivers raging with spring runoff, this place never disappoints.

Salar de Uyuni is the biggest salt flat on the planet. We knew you could take good perspective shots so we came up with lots of ideas. Some of them were bad and some of them were hilarious. We decided to take a shot of a toy dinosaur attacking the camper. We dismantled the camper table for the swords. Needless to say, we are very happy with how the result turned out.
