We had just bought this Lance 850 three days before we hit the road with no reservations made. We decided to do things different this vacation and dry camp instead of staying at the usual campgrounds with full hookups. Along this last minute road trip with my wife, Jayme, and our three Chihuahuas, we stayed in Steamboat Springs and stopped by Aspen to see Maroon Bells and took Independence Pass to Crested Butte.
After Crested Butte we ended this amazing road trip at Great Sand Dunes National Park then made our way back home to Lexington, Kentucky. We’ve had a travel trailer and a fifth wheel in the past. We love the adventures a truck camper makes possible!

We bought our camper and truck the fall of 2017. We took several short trips in preparation for a two month trip to southern Utah in late spring of 2018, when Roddy retired. Except for the twelve short days it took to drive from our home in Asheville, North Carolina to Zion National Park and back again, and going to Mesa Verde, we were in Utah.
For six weeks we explored exclusively in the parts of Utah that are south of interstate 70. Because we were newbies at camping, we disperse camped for only three to four nights at a time – between spending three to eight days in National and State Parks. We had a glorious time. As far as we’re concerned, everything went nearly perfect.
This photo was taken at a spot located on BLM land we found a little north of Kodachrome Basin State Park. It was peaceful and a very pleasant temperature. It was a wonderful way to spend our 40th wedding anniversary on May 23, 2018.

My wife, Janet, and myself were on the Lake Superior Circle Tour for eighteen days. I had made a reservation for this campsite facing Lake Superior in the Agawa Bay Campground.
It turned out to be a special site tucked into the tall pines, with a three kilometer long beach in front, running north to the Agawa River, which we hiked to. There were great sunsets and spacious campsites. We stayed here for two nights of our trip.

We were on our way back home after spending spring break in the White Mountains of eastern Arizona. We had camped the night before at the BLM campground on the Gila River off the Black Hills Back Country Byway near the town of Clifton.
We had taken this side road to explore. We drove in four-wheel drive for about two miles before it got steeper and rougher than we were interested in on the last day of our trip. The photo is just after we had turned around and were climbing back to the byway.

We were camping at Memaloose State Park in Oregon on the Columbia River. We secured the last available spot and it was right next to the highway.
There was a camper in our reserved spot when we arrived. We found a ranger and he told us they had a cancellation on a spot with an obstructed view of the river. We took it, and had the best view!
It was hot, but we had full hookups so we could run the air conditioner for Shadow, our camping cat. It was so nice enjoying the river view and watching huge barges going up and down the river.

We were staying at an RV park along the Siletz river which is on the Oregon Coast. We were packed in like sardines and were ready for a change when we discovered this spot out in the middle of a field. A beautiful and tranquil spot to ourselves. Our type of living!
