Voting for the sixth annual Truck Camper Magazine Readers’ Choice Awards begins today, December 21st and runs through 11:59 PM PST, Wednesday, December 26th.
Awards will be presented Thursday, December 27th for the Best Truck Camper of 2018, Best Truck Camper Gear of 2018, and Best Truck Camper Innovation of 2018.
Trends In New Camper, Gear, and Innovation
For 2016 and 2017 we saw a sharp dip in new truck camper model announcements with just seven new models announced both years. That anemic pattern ended this year with 10 new truck camper announcements.
While three more campers might not sound like a lot, statistically it’s a 42-percent increase! It’s also about on par with the number of new campers announced in 2013 (10), 2014 (10), and 2015 (12). Perhaps the new camper drought is over.
Gear is another story, or the same story. For the past two years there have been only two gear announcements per year. This year, another two. We are excited about the two nominees, but we would love to see more new truck camper gear for 2019.
Thankfully, we have better news for the truck camper innovation category with 15 listed nominees for 2018. This is a record number of innovations beating and even trouncing 2015 (11), 2016 (6), and 2017 (10).
With the millennials entering the market, it’s time for truck campers to move forward with fresh thinking and design. Truck campers cannot be just a baby boomer product, not if this industry is to thrive. Innovation on all fronts is required.
