Once again, Bowen Customs floored Overland Expo with an innovation that keeps going, and going, and going. Introducing the Bowen pull-out kitchen. Sink? Check. Cooktop? Check. Ready to party? Check. And there’s something fob-ulous you need to see…

The concept of a disruptive company gets thrown around a lot. To be truly disruptive, a company has to transform an existing market through a combination of better design, accessibility, performance, and consumer experience. Think Apple’s iPhone. Think Tesla’s Model S. Think Peloton’s Bike.
Starting in the early 2020s, Bowen Customs has wowed Overland Expo after Overland Expo with their beautiful, aggressive, and functionally ground-breaking flatbeds and camper beds. Most importantly, the Bowen team has continued to innovate year after year pushing forward with a level of refinement and ideas the flatbed and camper bed market rarely—if ever—sees.
Today, Bowen Customs stands out as a truly disruptive force in the overland marketplace. Anyone who doubts this assertion hasn’t walked the busy camping fields and show exhibits at Overland Expo. From fifty feet away, the telltale laser-cut “Bowen” logo can be spotted again, and again, and again. Honestly, Bowen almost doesn’t need to go to Overland Expo anymore. The overland industry and community proudly present their brand and products everywhere. Disruption achieved.
Of course we did go to Bowen Custom’s booth at Overland Expo West. And once more the Bowen crew wowed with an innovation that raised iPhones to photo and video position—and held them there.

At first blush, Chivas Sotelo’s (@chivas_gets_lost) tricked out Ford F-350, Bowen Customs flatbed, and Four Wheel Camper Hawk+ might just look like another outstanding Bowen show rig. We’ve become accustomed to this level of excellence from Bowen, almost to the point where we say, “Is that it?”
And that’s right where the Bowen team wants you. Calm. Unsuspecting. Lulled into complacency. Then…
Bam! From ten feet way Chivas presses a key fob and every Bowen lock lights up green and unlocks. That’s right you too-cool-for-overland, seen-everything, couldn’t possibly be impressed lookey-loos.

Every lock on this rig electronically and wirelessly unlocks from a key fob. Then BAM! Chivas hit his key fob again and a chorus of locks click and light-up red locking the whole Bowen bed down.

Bowen’s next trick made sure those raised iPhones stayed up. Chivas opened his Bowen garage revealing a 12-volt refrigerator and a pull-out kitchen. And then he pulled the kitchen out further. And then further again. By the time he fully extended the kitchen, we had backed up, and then gathered around.
When fully deployed, the Bowen pull-out kitchen presented a lift-up storage area, a two-burner induction cooktop, a two-level countertop, a sink, and a Dometic GO faucet with a dedicated water tank. We’ve seen a few pull-out kitchens on truck camper rigs over the years, but nothing even close to this.

When we asked about the extension and weight, the Bowen team explained that the kitchen slides were capable of supporting up to 500 pounds. They also said that they’re looking to further develop this concept, and are considering making it available as a separate product—not just a Bowen Bed option. As a prototype, it’s already a show stopper.
