Lock That Stops Drawers and Cabinets From Opening While Driving
2011 GMC 2500
2006 Northstar Elite
I have had drawers and cupboards come open while driving down the road. This has caused items stored in these areas to fall onto the floor. To prevent this from happening, I decided to come up with a drawer and cupboard lock.
First, I went to our local hardware store found a small metal bracket with a hole on one side. Next, I located white plastic spacers and some wood screws.
I drilled a small hole next to the edge of the cupboard on the side that opens and on the top of the drawers. I put some wood glue on the screw and installed the metal bracket with the spacer in place. I tightened the screw enough to hold the bracket firmly, but still allow it to be turned for the lock and unlock feature I was trying to create.
It works as designed. Now I lock all the drawers and cupboards before driving, and never have them open during travel.
The parts I needed were wood screws, plastic spacers, metal brackets and wood glue. It took me 2-3 hours to complete this modification and cost me $12. In my opinion, the skill level of this modification is easy.
