Have You Truck Camped in Alaska?

It’s been far, far too long since we checked in with our readers about their truck camping adventures in Alaska. If you’ve been to Alaska in the past ten years, we really want to hear from you!

Alaskan Question

You might find this impossible to believe, but the publishers of Truck Camper Magazine have never been to Alaska in a truck camper. Yes, we got married on the Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau, but that was during a cruise. We’re certainly not complaining about our lifestyle, but we never seem to have enough of an open schedule in the right season to go to The Last Frontier.

This topic came up recently at TCM HQ when we realized how long it had been since we’d published a deep dive on truck camping in Alaska. The last feature story is now almost six years old. The irony is that we published fifteen articles on Alaska between 2010 and 2015. I think we may have overdone it and then overcorrected. Let’s fix that together.

If you’ve taken your truck camping rig to Alaska, we want your most recommended things to see and do, the roads you can’t miss, the destinations to die for, and the campgrounds or boondock spots you wouldn’t pass up for anything. Pretend you went back in time to tell yourself what to do in Alaska!

Did you drive the Top of the World Highway through Tok and Chicken? Did you explore the Kenai Peninsula, visit Seward, explore Homer, and take a cruise around the Kenai Fjords? Did you ride the Alaska Marine Highway ferry system through the Inside Passage and visit Sitka or Juneau? Did you take a dip in the Chena Hot Springs, photograph bears in Hyder, or visit the University of Alaska Museum of the North in Fairbanks? We want to know!

January 2: We are compiling the responses and will publish the Alaska Destination article soon.
