Lance 1191 Production Model Debuts

Since breaking cover last September, the Lance 1191 prototype has generated tremendous excitement. Now the production 1191 is ready, and Lance has extensive and important changes to report. Heads up, Lance fans. The new 1191 is shipping!

Lance 1191 Camper In Production

It’s been a long time since there’s been this much excitement surrounding a new Lance truck camper. Since our Lance 1191 prototype announcement posted last September, Lance’s dealer network and customer base have been buzzing about this reinvented hard side, non-slide, dry bath flagship.

Excitement aside, there’s a lot going on with this new Lance. They may have started with a design from the mid-2010s, but Lance has taken the 1191 to heights. The 48-volt EZ Off-Grid Camping Package alone takes factory-installed battery, electrical, and solar system to levels rarely seen in any production camper.

So what’s changed from the prototype to the production version? In a few words: nothing and everything. The floor plan that rolled Lance fans’ socks up and down last fall remains the same, but darn near everything else has been refined—right down to the wiring, plumbing, and gas lines. Then they got to work on the components, cabinetry, and options. If the 1191 prototype got you excited, the production version won’t let you down.

For more information about Lance’s new hard side, non-slide, dry bath, flagship truck camper, we talked to Gary Conley, National Sales Manager for Lance Campers.

The original Lance 1191 slide-out camper was discontinued in 2016. Why is Lance bringing back the 1191 ten years later as a non-slide model?

In the 2010s, there was a huge demand for slide-out campers. As time passed, that demand shifted towards non-slide floor plans that allow for instant access to the bathroom, refrigerator, dinette, and cabover sleeping area without deploying a slide. To meet that growing demand, we’re bringing back one of our most popular slide-out floor plans—the Lance 1191—as a non-slide flagship.

As a side entry model, the 1191 is the perfect candidate for towing set-ups. The side entry gives you complete access to the unit while towing a boat, trailer, or ATVs, Jeeps, snowmobiles, and beyond.

Lance 1191 Door To Bed

Did you start with the original 1191 CAD drawings, or was the new 1191 redesigned from the ground up?

We started with the original CAD drawings and bill of materials. Then we went through everything material-by-material, piece-by-piece, and component-by-component to see where we could improve the structural strength, drive down weight, improve quality, and bring the new 1191 up to our 2026 standards. We also evaluated cost across the board to ensure we were providing the maximum value possible.

When we saw the prototype 1191 at the Elkhart RV Open House last September, Lance was talking about a number of planned changes. Now that we’re looking at the production version, what’s changed?

When we’re developing a prototype, it’s about form and concept. When we build a production unit, we go through every detail and make it a Lance Camper.

For example, all of the hot and cold water lines were completely redone. Specifically, fittings were upgraded, 90-degree retainers were added, and the overall plumbing design was simplified. These changes are an important part of making the 1191 a true four-season capable camper, and less prone to leaks from years of use and vibrations.

Lance Water Lines 1191 Camper

We took the same approach with the electrical system. For example, the 110-volt Romex wire for the air conditioner is yellow, whereas another component’s Romex will be orange or white. This means you don’t need a schematic to know which wire runs from the fuse or breaker box to the component being serviced.

We take the same approach with our 12-volt wiring. First, everything 12-volt throughout the camper is plug-and-play automotive grade. Second, every circuit is uniquely color-coded, making it easy to know which wire does what. This approach greatly speeds dealer service and saves our customers time and money years after the sale.

For the dump assembly, we added a diaphragm to the P-trap to prevent odors from entering the living space. In a traditional setup, the only barrier is the water seal in the P-trap. If that water evaporates, the seal is lost. The diaphragm eliminates this potential. We also don’t use fabric on the ceiling to avoid smells getting trapped over time. Our vinyl ceiling prevents that possibility.

This extensive process is continued through the LP gas lines and service-side items to develop the final production version of the 1191. These are the kinds of details Lance builds into its campers that no other camper manufacturer can match.

Lance 1191 Refrigerator Open

We showcased a number of these items in our Lance factory tour article last year. How about any component changes from the prototype to the production 1191?

The production model now comes standard with a 10-cubic-foot, 12-volt DC compressor refrigerator featuring a dual-swing door and a bottom pull-out freezer, which proved to be the best balance of capacity and accessibility.

Lance 1191 Kitchen Counters

In the galley, the glass-top propane cooktop is now standard. We elected to keep propane as the primary cooking method because it offers the most versatility. A plug-in induction cooktop could be brought along.

Lance 1191 Furrion Microwave

A Furrion convection microwave and air fryer is offered as the optional microwave solution, consistent with other Lance products.

Climate and comfort systems were also finalized with a 20,000-BTU furnace from Furrion as standard. Hot water is handled by a Fogatti water heater as standard, with the option to upgrade to a Truma AquaGo for those who want premium on-demand performance.

For an air conditioner, buyers can choose between a Furrion Chill or an optional 13,500-BTU Truma unit. The Truma adds a built-in dehumidifier, quieter operation, and remote control capability. Both air conditioners deliver strong cooling performance, giving customers a clear choice based on their priorities rather than capability.

Glass Cabinet Faces Lance 1191

It’s hard to miss the dark glass cabinet faces. Tell us about that change.

The prototype featured hollow-core cabinet doors. The production version cabinet doors are upgraded to Shaker-style with dark-tinted glass inserts. It’s a fresh and modern look, giving the production 1191 a more polished feel.

We also changed the big open galley-area closet that Gordon literally got into for your 1191 prototype video. For the production 1191, that cabinet now features a pull-out pantry. Customers can still opt for a big open closet, but the pull-out pantry is standard.

Lance 1191 Dry Bath

The 1191 prototype showcased a huge, all-new dry bath. Has anything changed for the production version?

We removed the ABS surround on the upper half of the shower stall and now have a fully laminated fiberglass surround. That’s the biggest change.

We also made refinements to the counter to better fit with the bathroom door. The 1191 in the photography has pockets under the sink. The 1191 units being shipped to dealers will have drawers like the prototype.

v

The biggest wow in the 1191 dry bath is the eight inches of added floor space; four inches on each side of the toilet. That space alone makes it a more usable dry bath.

Lance 1191 Dinette Production Model

The prototype showcased a full-booth face-to-face dinette that converted into a 37 inch wide by 78 inch long bed (6’5”). Has anything changed in the dinette area?

We added access under the front dinette seat with storage. The rear seat has our traditional full-extension drawer. Beyond that, the dinette is the same as the prototype.

Will recliners be available in the production 1191?

Yes, customers can choose between the face-to-face dinette or reclining seats. This is one area where the slide-out version will make a big difference. With the slide-out version, we’ll be able to offer a huge U-shape dinette.

Lance 1191 Dinette Seat Nook

Did the storage nook on the back side of the forward-facing dinette make the cut?

Yes. That space is there because it’s needed for the slide-out. Since the production 1191 is a non-slide, we can use that space for a storage nook.

Lance 1191 Cabover Passenger

The 1191 prototype cabover was a new design for Lance. Tell us about why you changed the cabover in the 1191.

For the 1191 cabover, we studied the cabovers we’ve produced over the decades, and created a new design with all of our best ideas. Some of the cabover elements in the 1191 cabover date back to our first extended cabover in 1985. It’s a culmination of the most useful cabover storage ideas we’ve ever had.

We’re actually making another change to the 1191 cabover to move the television location between the refrigerator and wardrobe. This will allow us to cut the bunk wall back on the driver’s side to create a more open feel when you crawl into the bed.

Lance 1191 Roof

Before we talk about the EZ Off-Grid Camping Package showcased in the prototype, tell us about the standard battery, solar, and electrical system for the production 1191.

To give our customers the maximum flexibility, the base units start with no solar or batteries from the factory. From there, customers can order 200, 400, 600, or 1,200 watts of solar, and 100Ah or 200Ah of lithium batteries. You can get more battery capacity, but you need to step up to the EZ Off-Grid Camping Package.

Lance 1191 Lithium Battery Copy

The prototype’s EZ Off-Grid Camping Package was the most audacious battery, solar, and electrical system in Lance truck camper history. Will the EZ Off-Grid Camping Package be available on the production 1191?

Yes. Some customers prefer to install their own battery, solar, and electrical system, but it would be hard to beat the quality, capacity, and integration of the EZ Off-Grid Camping Package—especially for the money.

2026 Lance 1191 Exterior Rear Wall Victron Close Up

Above: The full Victron system showcased in the 1191 prototype is also available

A lot of folks—us included—were surprised when they saw a full Victron electrical system in the 1191 prototype, including a Victron MultiPlus-II 48 volt, 5000 VA (Volt-Amps) and a 70 Amp inverter/charger on the back wall. Why did Lance select Victron for the EZ Off-Grid Camping Package?

We worked with an electrical engineer who has an extensive background in residential solar and professional power systems for the movie and entertainment industry. His deep knowledge of solar and lithium technologies shaped every aspect of the EZ Off-Grid Camping System. He recommended Victron as the top system available in the world. We went with the best.

In addition to the EZ Off-Grid Camping System, Onan generators remain available. If someone wants to be prepared for anything, a 2500 watt generator with the EZ Off-Grid Camping System is unbeatable. The camper batteries will also charge off the truck’s alternator and solar. Everything is dialed in. Put another way, you are going to run out of food and water long before you run out of power on a fully-loaded Lance 1191.

If someone wants the EZ Off-Grid Camping System, will they need to place a factory order through their local Lance dealer?

That’s always a possibility, but several Lance dealers are ordering 1191 units with the EZ Off-Grid Camping System.

2026 Lance 1191 Exterior Battery

Above: The EG4 48-volt system showcased in the 1191 prototype is also available

What are the advantages of the EZ Off-Grid Camping System’s EG4 48-volt 100Ah / 5.1 kWh LifePO4 server rack battery?

In a 48-volt system, 100Ah of lithium capacity stores the same amount of energy as 400Ah at 12 volts. Adding a second 100Ah battery doubles that to the equivalent of 800Ah at 12 volts.

The advantage of 48 volts is that it delivers the same power using much less electrical current, which reduces heat, energy loss, and stress on the system. That allows for smaller wiring, more efficient inverters, and better performance with high-draw appliances like air conditioners or microwaves. It’s the best.

“The advantage of 48 volts is that it delivers the same power using much less electrical current, which reduces heat, energy loss, and stress on the system.”

Have you kept the PV Array D.C. Isolator (aka a DC disconnect switch) on the production 1191? Is that an EZ Off-Grid Camping Package feature only?

Yes. We also kept the DC-to-DC charger and everything showcased in the prototype 1191.

And where everything gets connected is housed in a sealed container with a built-in fire suppression device. If the wires heat up, the fire suppression device prevents the connections from getting too hot. Lance is the only company, as far as I know, with fire suppression installed on the battery and electrical system.

Lance 1191 Fire Suppression Device

Above: Note the central TOMZN fire suppression device

Does it work like a Halon system?

It’s similar to that. If the system detects heat above a temperature threshold, it releases a fire-extinguishing aerosol that physically and chemically suppresses fire. We recently showed the system to dealers here at the factory and jaws were hitting the ground. We’re using residential standards that far exceed the standards set by the RVIA (Recreational Vehicle Industry Association).

“Lance is the only company, as far as I know, with fire suppression installed on the battery and electrical system.”

That’s definitely an entry for the 2026 Readers’ Choice Innovation of the Year. Are the holding tanks in the production 1191 the same 45 gallons fresh, 38 gallons grey, and 35 gallons black featured in the prototype?

Yes. And they’re fully enclosed, insulated, and have ducted heat for four-season camping—like every Lance truck camper.

Lance 1191 Driver Side Exterior

The 1191 prototype featured glass windows. The final production version has acrylic thermal pane windows. Why did you switch from glass to acrylic for the production version?

Thermal acrylic windows have so many benefits. First, they save weight. Second, they improve the four-season capability. There’s no comparison in how much better acrylic thermal pane windows are for insulation.

Third, acrylic windows don’t have weep holes. That means you’ll never have a draft in the camper. Weep holes can let dirt into the unit. Fourth, they don’t transfer heat to cold from the outside into the camper like aluminum-framed glass windows. That means no condensation. You won’t find freezing around your window with acrylic thermal pane windows.

Finally, you can fully open acrylic windows and lock them into position. Unlike a glass slider window, which means you can open acrylic windows in the rain.

The negative to acrylic windows is that if you hit a tree or wash the unit, they can scratch. We believe the benefits far outweigh the potential negatives.

Lance 1191 Rear Cabinets

Are the acrylic windows bigger or smaller than the glass windows in the prototype?

They’re as big as we could source, and mostly bigger than the glass windows in the prototype.

What interior decor options are available for the 1191?

Three interior decors are available for Lance Campers in 2026; Grey Grayson (grey), Bronzite (toupe-grey/brown), and Lapis (blue). The main cushion color is a grey vinyl as standard and the wood grains and walls are all standard.

Lance 1191 Propane Copy

What size are the propane tanks, and where are they located?

The 1191 features two 30-pound vertical propane tanks on a pull-out tray with an auto changeover regulator. If a customer chooses, they can change these tanks to two 20-pound vertical propane tanks to save weight. Now that campers have 12-volt refrigerators, some may prefer to carry less propane.

The scale weight shown above includes 361 pounds of optional features, including air conditioning, a convection oven, a generator, a roof rack, a solar panel, and an electric awning, among others.

The Lance 1191 Prototype weighed in at 3,802 pounds with a fairly extensive set of options. What is the dry base weight of the 2026 Lance 1191?

The base weight is 3,518 pounds.

What does a fully loaded 1191 typically weigh?

It would be 4,064 pounds, and that includes a generator.

Lance 1191 Generator In The Compartment

What options or packages are available for 1191?

Interior choices include either a traditional dinette, recliner seating, or a slide-out. In the galley, available upgrades include a three-burner range with an oven and a convection microwave/air fryer.

For electrical and off-grid options, we offer the EZ Off-Grid Camping Package with a 48-volt lithium battery system built around an EG4 48V (5.1 kWh) LiFePO4 battery, a Victron MultiPlus-II 48V 5000VA inverter/charger, a PV array DC isolator (with manual disconnect), and a high-capacity roof-mounted solar array (up to 1,200 watts).

For air conditioners, we offer a low-profile Furrion 13.5K BTU unit or a Truma 13.5K BTU system. The optional generator is an Onan 2500-watt propane unit. Other popular options include a MaxxFan roof vent, Smart TV, Starlink capability, and a wireless backup camera with monitor.

Exterior options include an electric side awning, the Lance Load roof rack system, and a Phat Ladder.

Where is the 1191’s center of gravity located?

The center of gravity is 52.5”.

Lance 1191 Nose Cap

What trucks is the 1191 designed for?

The 1191 is best suited to one-ton dually trucks.

Lance was looking to hit an MSRP of $57K for the 1191. What is the final base MSRP?

Retail base price is $55,949 USD.

What is the MSRP when fully equipped?

A fully equipped 2026 Lance 1191 with the EZ Off-Grid Camping Package, built-in generator, microwave, oven, and all available options comes to $79,834 USD plus freight and destination. Apples to apples, that camper has features far beyond our direct competitors at a very competitive price.

What warranty does Lance offer on this camper?

Lance Campers come with a one-year bumper-to-bumper warranty and a two-year structural warranty. Installed components come with their own warranties.

Lance 1191 Bed To Door

When will the 1191 be available at dealerships?

Lance 1191 campers are on our production line now. They will be arriving at Lance dealers across North America starting this month. Our dealers are very excited about this camper and we have plenty of orders being built and shipped.

When the Lance 1191 non-slide prototype was debuted last September, Lance also announced it would be producing a slide-out version of this model—a Lance 1191S. Is that in the works?

At this point, the 1191S will probably roll out in April.

While we’re excited about the slide-out version, I believe the 1191 non-slide checks all the boxes; floor length, weight, bathroom access, onboard battery, solar, and electrical, and a refined floor plan that’s hard to beat. Unless you need the extra floor space, or the U-shape dinette, the non-slide 1191 is a compelling choice.

Lance 1191 Back Storage Compartment

Is there anything else you’d like to add about the Lance 1191?

For the production version, we incorporated the exterior rear storage from the Lance 1172. This gives the production model a much bigger rear storage area with the optional Victron system pushed forward and out of the way. That’s a big deal for folks who prioritize exterior storage and easy electrical system access.

Lance is cooking up yet another new model. Can you give us a teaser?

We are working on the next-generation Lance 650. The new model has been redesigned from the ground up, is a true four-season camper, has a true queen-size bed, and will feature the most comfortable seating in its class. It will be unbeatable.
