Hawk+ Takes Flight: Four Wheel Camper’s Ultimate Flatbed

The Hawk+ is FWC’s first fully self-contained flatbed pop-up truck camper. With 6 inches more interior space, up to 810Ah of lithium, 40 gallons of fresh water capacity, a 5 gallon grey tank, and 40.6 cubic feet of storage, it’s built for longer trips—on or off the grid.

Four Wheel Camper Hawk Plus

Four Wheel Campers is no stranger to pushing the boundaries of what a pop-up camper can be. But with the launch of the Hawk+, the Woodland, California-based builder has taken its proven flatbed side-entry platform and evolved it into something altogether more capable: its first fully self-contained camper.

Built to mount on a 7-foot flatbed tray, the Hawk+ gains a full 6 inches of interior space and is engineered for full-size, three-quarter-ton or one-ton trucks. What’s different this time around? Just about everything—starting with a major upgrade in power, storage, layout, and self-sufficiency.

Up to 810Ah of Lithium Power

Let’s start with the power setup, because holy amperage—this thing delivers the juice. The Hawk+ comes standard with a single 162Ah lithium battery. But if you’re the type who looks at a 162Ah system and says, “Cute, but will it power my coffee maker, hair dryer, and griddle?”—FWC has your back.

You can option the Hawk+ up to 810Ah. That’s not a typo. Charging is handled by the Redarc Manager Alpha 75, a brilliant integrated system that juggles truck alternator, solar (up to 500W), and shore power like a champ. And get this: when the camper batteries are full, the Redarc Manager Alpha 75 can recharge your truck batteries. Yes, your camper can now automatically charge your truck.

There’s also a 2,000-watt inverter, AC outlets, USB, USB-C, and a Starlink Mini DC port—because even when you’re 60 miles past the last bar of signal, you still need to stream YouTube videos on how to unstick your recovery gear. From a power perspective, there’s no compromise on the Hawk+.

Water and Waste—Self-Contained

Forget rationing your water like a 19th-century prospector. The Hawk+ hauls 40 gallons of fresh water—double what most previous Four Wheel Campers offered, and 5 gallons more than yours truly’s 11-foot hard-side camper. That’s 333.6 pounds of H20 to go.

The Hawk+ also includes a built-in 5-gallon grey tank, a first for the company. Monitoring both is easy with integrated gauges tied into the Redarc Alpha 75 control panel.

For toilet options, the Hawk+ offers a built-in 5-gallon cassette toilet, or a cabinet for a composting toilet, porta-potty, or Wrappon. Or you can skip the throne altogether and channel that space into more gear. Either way, your days of walking to the pit toilet at 2am while watching for bears are over.

Hot water and heat come courtesy of a Truma Combi, which is designed to run whisper-quiet, especially on night mode. It also sips propane like a Victorian duchess at tea time—dual 10-gallon tanks will keep you in hot showers and warm toes for days on end. Four Wheel Campers claims up to 20 showers are possible with the built-in 40 gallon water tank, but you might lose your overland credibility if you stay that clean.

Refined Layout, More Storage

That six extra inches of camper length might not sound like much, but inside the Hawk+, it’s a game-changer. More floor space. More counters. More storage. The front-wall cabinetry includes a lift-up countertop and a pantry with double doors—double doors, people. That’s civilized, no matter how far out you camp.

There’s also lift-up, gas strut-assisted underbed storage for the kind of cabover storage that makes hard side owners swoon. At the opposite end, the face-to-face dinette offers a panoramic view, seats up to four adults, converts to a twin-sized bed, and hides even more gear underneath each seat.

Total interior space? 412 cubic feet of interior volume and over 40 cubic feet of usable storage. That’s van-crushing capacity. Go ahead and bring the cast-iron skillet and that second pair of boots you’ll never wear. The Hawk+ can handle it.

Versatility for Real-World Travel

Cooking in the Hawk+ is flexible. It’s got a flush-mount sink and space for a drop-in induction cooktop, which you can remove and use outdoors so the smoke alarm won’t judge you. The 130-liter 12-volt compressor refrigerator is big enough to store actual food—not just a six-pack and regret.

To personalize the Hawk+, you can choose your finishes: flooring, cabinet color, countertop, and dinette and cabover fabric. Add the optional roof rack, huge rear MOLLE panel (aka, “the black grid of everything”), Norweld storage boxes, and a slide-out tray, and you’ve got a Swiss Army mobile command center for adventure—or an escape pod for when Thanksgiving gets weird. Hey, we’ve done it too.

The cabover bed expands to a king, with an optional fan and thermal pack to regulate light and temperature. For even more flexibility, the optional interior shower hides inside the footwell of the dinette: pretty sneaky secret shower, eh? Between the sleeping, seating, and storage configurations, the Hawk+ is set up to support solo travelers, couples, or even a small family.

Taking Aim At The Van Market

Let’s be blunt: the Hawk+ is gunning for the van market. It’s got more space, more storage, and more off-grid range than most vans. It demounts, pairs with a 4×4 truck, and doesn’t cost six figures (unless you want it to).

And here’s the kicker: when your van-driving buddy gets stuck in a muddy forest road, you can pull them out—with your house still attached. That’s poetry.

We’re thrilled to see this level of marketplace engagement focused on a segment that’s been allowed to run too far for too long. Go get ‘em, FWC!
