Announcing the Kimbo Series 6

With a frameless aluminum shell, psychosomatically tuned interior, and a no-compromise modular build, the Kimbo Series 6 is truly one of a kind. Engineered for comfort, durability, and complete confidence, Kimbo is ready to go. Teaser Alert: The Kimbo Series 8 is happening!

Announcing The Kimbo Series 6

For the full backstory on Kimbo Campers and the Kimbo Series 6, start with ‘Mark King: The Story Behind Kimbo Campers’.

Angela and I finally had the opportunity to step into a Kimbo 6 truck camper at Overland Expo PNW this past June. Starting with the riveted, all-aluminum, multi-faceted exterior, we knew we were in for a unique experience. However, we were not prepared for the deep, human-calibrated concepts that awaited us.

As mind-bending and fun as the Kimbo 6 Series was to explore, meeting the man behind it was even more intriguing. Within minutes, Kimbo’s Founder and Owner, Mark King, had us thinking about truck camper design in completely new ways. Like ‘have a 45-degree seat and let’s talk about natural human behavior’ kind of ways. I assure you, this doesn’t happen often.

We were also surprised to learn that Kimbo has already produced 565 Series 6 campers from their factory in Bellingham, Washington. That’s no small feat for a company with such a unique approach. Clearly, the combination of a durable aluminum shell, modular interior, and unmistakable aesthetic is resonating.

This article explores the Kimbo Series 6 in detail including its materials, features, quirks, and why it defies convention. But there’s more. Mark revealed a new model is in the works: the Kimbo Series 8. It will be a longer, roomier evolution of the Series 6, with a bathroom. Based on what we’ve seen in reader surveys, the Kimbo Series 8 could hit a sweet spot with truck camper enthusiasts.

Kimbo Camper On Dirt Overlanding Road

To challenge everything we thought we knew about truck campers—and to tempt us with his utterly unique vision—we sat down with Mark King to talk about the Kimbo Series 6, and the future of Kimbo.

Walk us through the interior of a Kimbo Series 6. What can customers expect in terms of layout, options, and customization?

The base camper has a fan, windows, insulation, a battery, a closet, seating, a mattress, jacks, and propane. It’s basic.

From there, you can add the Dickinson Marine fireplace. That thing is really cool. You can also add a refrigerator, a kitchen with a sink, and a shower. You can also add a storage bay for clothes, a pull-out table and storage baskets, an air conditioner, solar and Starlink.

You can also get a stand-up paddleboard holder and a Rotopax on the back. The question is, how prepared do you want to be? If you just go out for weekend getaways, you may not need what’s necessary for a four-month trip.

Kimbo Interior Camper

What interior finishes are available for the countertops, fabrics, and flooring?

Right now, we have one interior aesthetic. When you’re a small business, variability means more inventory and more cost. Increased variability increases complexity and requires more lean manufacturing. We do offer a number of module options.

Kimbo Overcab To Door

Are modules essentially what you call options?

Yes. There’s a wide range of modules—or options—to tailor a Kimbo to your needs.

Exterior options focus on storage and utility, such as roof tracks that support Thule or Yakima racks, Rotopax fuel and water mounts, a 42‑inch passenger‑side ski rack, and dual‑plate brackets for quick‑release camper jacks. You can also add a 30‑pound propane tank.

Kimbo 6 Kitchen

Interior options include a full kitchen module with a stainless steel sink, worktop, hot water, and a propane refrigerator, plus a water reservoir with an electric sprayer. Comfort upgrades include a propane fireplace with a chimney, an air conditioner with a storage bay, and a fold‑away shower module.

For power, you can add a 100‑watt roof‑mounted solar system, an EcoFlow River Pro battery with 110-volt and USB outlets, and even a second 100‑watt panel. Storage upgrades like a table and closet with shelves, modular baskets, and a folding bed help organize the living space.

Kimbo Refrigerator In Camper

We use the best products we can source. We use a Dometic refrigerator, a reliable air conditioner, and premium solar panels. We use products that have a good reputation, but they are second to the shell. If the refrigerator breaks for any reason, it is easy to replace.

Kimbo Campers Have Air Conditioners

Will the refrigerator fit through the door if it needs to be replaced?

Oh yeah. Camper manufacturers sometimes forget that items like refrigerators need to be replaced over time. Everything fits through the door of a Kimbo.

What’s the standard battery setup?

We use portable lithium battery systems. These have built-in inverters, USB ports, 110-volt AC ports, and the ability to charge via solar. Using portable lithium systems means we don’t need an electrician on staff and the owner can upgrade their power system easily. We are currently using a portable lithium battery system from Bluetti.

Kimbo Camper With Solar Panel

What’s the standard solar panel capacity, and what’s the maximum?

We use bifacial solar panels to absorb solar from the top and bottom. The ones we source are quality and put out more power than a common panel. Kimbos come with one 100-watt solar panel with the option of 300-watts.

Kimbo Propane Compartment

What size propane tanks does the Kimbo 6 use?

Only the heater uses propane in a Kimbo. We use one thirty-pound propane tank. The reason for that is that you can run the heater in the cold in a remote place for up to two weeks. The big tank gives you an extra reserve. The tank is located next to the door.

Kimbo Fresh Water Container

What are the tank capacities on the Kimbo 6?

There’s a three gallon fresh water tank under the sink. Kimbo owners frequently use Rotopax on the back of their unit, or bring supplemental water tanks in their truck. I carry gallon water jugs in my truck.

Kimbo Sitting And Relaxing

There’s no traditional dinette in the Kimbo. Talk to us about that decision.

Interior space affects the experience of stepping inside a camper. Seating plays a big role in that. When you sit directly across from someone, it can feel formal or even confrontational. For an intimate or relaxed conversation, a 45‑degree angle works much better.

Body language studies show people naturally shift this way to feel comfortable and safe. You can test it—important conversations tend to flow longer when you’re not face‑to‑face across a table. That’s why we designed our camper seating so people aren’t pointing directly at each other. Instead, your legs are naturally at a 45‑degree angle, creating a more relaxed, conversational environment.

Kimbo Preparing Snack

In terms of our dining table, it can be folded away. I never fold mine away. I always encourage people to cook outside, but people can also cook on the countertop. One person could work at the main bench seat on a computer or chop vegetables. It’s a bit hard to have two people standing up in a Kimbo, but it is possible.

Kimbo Underseat Storage

Above: The storage space shown above can also hold a porta-potty and an inside shower

There’s also no toilet provision. What’s the reasoning there?

I didn’t want a permanently installed black tank and flush toilet in the Kimbo. It would take up too much space, and would make the camper smell like a Porta-Jon. Too many campers with holding tanks have that situation. A porta-potty is available with a Kimbo.

Kimbo Shower Set Up

It fits in our shower bay and is easy to pull out and use.

Kimbo Camper 6 Overcab

Can you explain how the cabover divider enhances the camper’s layout and structure?

Imagine you’re in a room with sixty people and you’re asked to sit in the center of the room. Some people are not facing you because you’re in the center. Naturally, you don’t have a psychosomatic sense of safety.

In a second experience, you’re asked to be in a corner with your back against two walls. You are able to see everything that’s happening and you feel protected from the backside. You naturally feel safer, more comfortable, and more sustainable.

v

With the cabover divider, you have a wall, but it’s open enough to view the rest of the camper. You can see the door and the rest of your camper, but there’s a slight partition; it feels cozy and protected.

Kimbo cabover window

The window on the front nose offers the same sense of comfort. It separates the rooms and opens up the camper.

Kimbo Wire Bins

Why did you opt for open wire baskets instead of traditional cabinets?

I sold my Airstream to help pay for Harvard. When I went to sell that trailer, I found a can of refried beans from 2016. I thought, “You’ve got to be kidding me.”

If you put things into cupboards—and this has probably happened in your house—things disappear. I wanted to make it so that everything in a Kimbo was visible. You can keep tabs on everything that is present in the camper.

Kimbo 6 Wire Bins 2

By being able to see things, you’re reminded to use what you have, or get rid of it. In a small space, everything matters.

Kimbo Hanging Storage And Baskets

Every Kimbo is pressure tested before delivery. Why is that a priority?

To create trust. If somebody buys a $25,000 camper and has issues with it, and they’re 1,000 miles from home, I’ve destroyed the trust. Our campers are built to last. We pressure test our camper so that we know it’s reliable.

Kimbo Driving Mode

If someone reads this article and is interested in a Kimbo 6, what’s their next step?

We’ve got a form that you fill out on our website where you share what you’re interested in. From there, our team will reach out and help you craft your perfect Kimbo truck camper.

What’s your current lead time?

There’s currently a one to two month wait.

Kimbo 6 Truck Camper

What’s the base MSRP for the Kimbo, and what does a fully loaded version cost?

The base MSRP is $24,999. Most Kimbos go out the door around $32,000 with a few key module options—heater, storage, table, wire baskets, etc. With every possible module and option, a Kimbo could go up to $52,000.

What warranty do you offer and what does it cover?

Kimbo campers have a two-year warranty on anything we’ve done. That stated, if you take care of your Kimbo, we will take care of you.

Kimbo, like any company, grows by word of mouth. You can’t grow a business without word of mouth. It’s so important that we take care of our customers.

You encourage owners to modify their Kimbos. What are some of the most creative or surprising adaptations you’ve seen?

Some people are extremely talented with carpentry and metalwork and create custom interiors. Their Kimbos look incredible.

When you modify your home with a slight remodel, like a bathroom remodel, it feels more like home because you’re making it yours with ownership of the design. We want you to make your camper your own.

I love it when people modify their Kimbos because they’ll enjoy them more and keep them longer. I’ve also customized my own camper over time. A lot of the changes we’ve made are because of our customers’ modifications and feedback.

Kimbo Overlanding Through Utah

If you could take a Kimbo anywhere tomorrow, where would you go?

I’m newly married, and I am so excited to show my wife the national parks and places she’s never seen, like the Grand Canyon and Zion National Park. I would love to take her to see the sandstone caverns in Arizona. I’m excited to show her some of the places I’ve been and the experiences I’ve had.

Where do you see the Kimbo in five years?

I am so proud of the guys who work here at Kimbo. They work really hard, and I feel honored that I get to work hard for them. I want to grow the business and reach more eyes and produce more product. We want to get Kimbo in the hands of thousands of people and families.

Kimbo Scenic Area

Behind the scenes at Kimbo, what’s next?

We are working on an all-new eight foot version of the Kimbo. It’s going to be bigger in all dimensions. It’s going to have an enclosed bathroom and a shower. It’s also going to have more battery and solar power. A lot more.

It’s going to be designed and built for families who want more room. My hope is that a family of three or four—two small kids and two adults—can take it out to experience the world.

That’s exciting! When will we see this new Kimbo?

We’re aiming for an early January 2026 launch. The first prototype will be completed soon, and we’ll test it from there. Look for a January announcement in Truck Camper Magazine.

Kimbo has been around for eight years, and in that time, we’ve built about 565 truck campers. If the average Kimbo is about four years old, that adds up to more than 2,000 combined years of adventures out in the world.

Thinking about all those experiences—thousands of years of Kimbos exploring, camping, and creating memories—is just incredible.
