We want to know the most unusual places you’ve spent the night in your rig. Perhaps breweries, churches, or orchards? Maybe athletic fields, industrial lots, or other unexpected spots that don’t exactly show up in campground apps. What have been your top unconventional parking spots?
During Celina and Brett Binns brewery tour featured in “Hops Across America,” they parked overnight at several breweries after sampling the local craft beers. They always asked for permission first and didn’t expect hookups or scenic views. In return, they got safe, level spots to park overnight—for free.
We explore a variety of unconventional overnight spots using Harvest Hosts. This membership program, founded by a truck camping couple, connects travelers with unique locations like vineyards, orchards, and museums. For an annual fee and the understanding that you’ll support the host’s business, you gain access to some truly memorable overnight stays.
Of course, you don’t need a membership to find unique places to park overnight. Over the years, we’ve parked at restaurants, casinos, museums, and even Panera Bread locations. While not every Panera is suitable for overnight parking, they often leave their Wi-Fi on at night and serve excellent coffee and breakfast in the morning. Many a Truck Camper Magazine article has been written from the comfort of a Panera booth, coffee in hand and laptop plugged-in.
