Louisville 2009 Part 2: Adventurer 80GS Close Up

Gordon White  | Tuesday, 01 December, 2009

We get our first hands on look at the all-new 2010 Adventurer 80GS.  And what did we first put our hands on?  Why the manual slide-out of course!

While the big multi-slide-out campers are appealing, there is something to be said for the lighter, and in many ways, more practical non-slide truck campers.  We debuted the 2010 Adventurer 80GS just this last Friday and we were excited to finally see this innovative new camper in person.

Our first order of business was to pull out and push back in the manual slide.  The slide has a bit of resistance on the initial pull or push, but then slides in or out easily.  Dave Frampton of Adventurer's Product Development team explained that the slide wipers are what cause the slide to need a little more umph to get moving.  We suspect that the manual slide would get progressively easier to move as it was used and the owner of the slide became more used to the mechanism.  We'll go back the 80GS tomorrow and give it another push and pull to see if gets easier with practice.

The interior of the 80GS is very warm and inviting.  I liked clever touches like the storage netting that lines the interior front nose.  Angela liked how stepping onto the dinette cushion made it easier to get into the overcab bedroom.  She also liked how the camper had an open feel.  We both appreciated the deeper counter space and storage provided by the galley slide.  Another point that Angela discovered was that you can get into the camper with the slide in and even get into the bathroom.  It's a bit tight, but you can use this camper with the slide in.  For a light and small camper, it's well thought out.
