COVER: Suni Williams from Oxnard, California ![]() Location: Alabama Hills, California Truck: 2006 Toyota Tundra Limited 4x4 Camper: 2003 Four Wheel Camper Hawk Model "This photograph was taken this past spring. I was on my way to Mammoth with my girlfriend and we stopped for the night in the Alabama Hills. The next morning was so crisp and beautiful. The contrast of the blue sky against the Sierras was breathtaking. We decided to take the long way out and I saw a small two track road climbing this mountain in the distance. I reckoned the view would be incredible from the top. The photo is just before the summit of the mountain. Sure glad we went to check it out." - Suni Williams JANUARY: Bjarni Thor Olaffson from Hafnafjordur, Iceland ![]() Photo Location: Stokknes, Iceland Truck: 2005 Ford F-150 King Ranch Camper: 2008 Travel Lite 800 SBX "This photo was taken on August 10, 2009 on the east coast of Iceland. We got married at the Furnace Creek Inn under the palm trees by the spring. Death Valley is a beautiful park and a very special place to us. This picture was taken after sunrise just outside the park near Saratoga Springs after a night of boondocking. We make this annual trip to celebrate our anniversary with friends." - Mike Ehlers MARCH: Aaron Walton from Bend, Oregon ![]() Photo Location: Eureka Gulch - San Juans, Colorado Truck: 2007 Ford F350 Camper: All Terrain Campers Cougar You can read Aaron Walton's Truck Camper Magazine story here: "Aaron Walton: Publisher of Wander the West". And, I would also like to thank everyone who voted for my picture that will appear in this year’s calendar and for my honorable mention picture. Mabel and I have been camping almost fifty years and will be celebrating our 50th anniversary this May. We’ve spent the last twenty-six years in a truck camper. Truck camping has given us the opportunity to see most of this beautiful country, including Alaska. One of our favorite spots is the Adirondacks in northern New York State. The Adirondacks is the largest wilderness area in the eastern United States with many private and over forty state DEC (Department of Environmental Conservation) campgrounds. Many of the state campgrounds have great hiking trails and offer lake front campsites, allowing us to launch our 17’ Quintrex fishing boat which we tow with our camper. We enjoy our time swimming, hiking, and fishing. I took the photo that was chosen for this year’s calendar in the Adirondacks at our campsite at Moffitt Beach Campground in Speculator, New York early one evening in July." - Art Davidson You can read Art Davidson's Truck Camper Magazine story here: "ALASKA WEEK PART 2: Art Davidson's Photographic Journey". MAY: Alex Blasingame from Moreno Valley, California ![]() Photo Location: Monks Corner Rd, Eutawville, South Carolina Truck: 2007 F250 Supercab, 4x4 Camper: 2003 Lance 815 "This photo was taken on May 16, 2009 on Monks Corner Road in Eutawville, South Carolina. Julie's Mom lives in Eutawville and we have taken this road several times to get to her house. The trees had a lot of foliage on them this year. I was just taken with how things looked with the canopy of green leaves." - Alex Blasingame JUNE: Suni Williams from Oxnard, California ![]() Location: Big Sur, California Truck: 2006 Toyota Tundra Limited 4x4 Camper: 2003 Four Wheel Camper Hawk Model "This photo was also taken this past spring. I was on a solo trip to Big Sur to check out the wild flowers. I came in the back way via Fort Hunter Liggett and spent the night up near Partington Ridge. The photo was taken on my way to my favorite secret camp site. The sun was setting, the grass was just golden in the fading light, and the sky and ocean were just pristine. I stopped for awhile to take it all in and happened to grab this shot. It was just one of those special moments in time." - Suni Williams JULY: Charlotte Webb from Chugiak, Alaska ![]() Photo Location: fishing trip at Kodiak, Alaska Truck: 2005 Silverado Extended Cab Shortbed 2500 HD 4X4 Duramax Diesel Camper: 2004 Arctic Fox 860 "My husband and I live on the mainland in Alaska and decided to take a trip to Kodiak on the Alaska Marine Highway system; the Alaska Ferry. We drove some of the few roads on Kodiak and found a remote beach. We camped on the hill above the beach for several days while fishing for Pink Salmon. It was a beautiful week, and we had perfect weather which is quite unusual for Kodiak Island. The site was just off the road a few yards, but had an awesome view of the Gulf of Alaska, with a short walk to the beach that was boiling with salmon. We frequently take pictures of our travels and place them on social networking sites to allow our families in the lower forty-eight to see what places we visit and what activities we are up to." - Charlotte Webb AUGUST: Eric Smith from Flagstaff, Arizona ![]() Photo Location: Caineville Wash Road, Southern Utah Truck: 2008 F250 4x4 Supercab Camper: 2006 Outfitter Caribou 6.5 "Caineville Wash Road is the main route to Cathedral Valley, just north of Capitol Reef in southern Utah. It is a lonely, barren place of stark and rugged beauty. I took this picture at sunset looking east towards North Caineville Mesa. The openness of the land allows for great views of the surrounding area, including Capitol Reef and the Henry Mountains. I visit here frequently, especially in spring when cold snowy weather still grips the high country." - Eric Smith SEPTEMBER: Andy Spedden from Wilmington, Delaware ![]() Photo Location: Sunset at Kennebunkport, Maine Truck: 2009 Chevy 2500 Gas Camper: 2007 Northstar 8.5 Arrow "In August my dog, Guinness, and I left Delaware in my Northstar truck camper and went up to Nova Scotia to see the sea. On the way back, we stayed on the coast to see all the harbor towns. While driving down the road in Kennebunkport, Maine, I saw this beautiful old stone church right on Ocean Avenue. A little ways from President Bush #41’s summer home, I found that it was their church and it was open to the public. I parked my truck next to the sea wall and we went in. When I came out of the church, I saw God's handy work in the sky by my camper and I took the picture." - Andy Spedden OCTOBER: Brian Stimits from Divide, Colorado ![]() Location: Monarch Pass, Colorado Truck: 2005 Ford F-250 Camper: 2007 Lance 861 "The photograph was taken on September 17th on the way to Ouray for a four-wheeling trip with our family. We didn’t have this spot in mind for a photograph, but we travel this way frequently. The drive from Divide, where we live, to Ouray is spectacular in the fall. It is worth the trip alone so we knew there would be some great opportunities for some pictures. Truck camping in Colorado during the fall is what we look forward to all year and this fall was as amazing as ever." - Brian Stimits NOVEMBER: Bob and Sue Frazier from Bandon, Oregon ![]() Photo Location: Folsom Lake, California Truck: 2000 Ford F250 Super Duty Camper: 2008 Bigfoot Model 10.6 "Meandering through California's historic 49'er gold country, Sue and I almost missed the turn off into Peninsula Campground at Folsom Lake. Evidently so must a lot of folks, because even on a brilliant June 23rd there were just a half dozen campers at this gorgeous campground with one hundred sites. The ten mile long, twisted little road into camp from California's famous Highway 49 severely limits vehicle size, yet it's all easy pavement. It’s just too narrow and curvy for most RV's thus making this a must visit for all of us truck campers. Located between the North and South forks of the American River, this was an unexpected gold-strike of privacy, vistas, and oak dotted serene hillsides. The resident camp hosts had left firewood at many of the camp spots we saw, and there were plentiful spots with majestic vistas above 18,000 acre Folsom Lake. After a few days of boondocking along the way, we took time before leaving to tank up with fresh water, use the dump station, and even wash off some road dust. The only other couple we met were also in a camper, and loving it. While we spent fifty-two nights in our camper this season, this setting was among the best." - Bob Frazier DECEMBER: Mike Johnson from Burlington, North Carolina ![]() Photo Location: Crater Lake National Park in Oregon Truck: 2008 Chevrolet 3500 DRW, Duramax Diesel/Allison Transmission Camper: 2008 Eagle Cap 1160 "In the spring of this year, we drove to Oregon to pick up an Eagle Cap 1160. We drove from North Carolina to Oregon in three days. Rather than take the fast road home, we took a leisurely three weeks seeing the northwest and north central states. This photo was taken at Crater Lake National Park one afternoon when earlier that day we were in a tsunami zone. And we had just passed through an avalanche zone before this photo was taken. Talk about extremes! The snow piles were higher than the truck camper and snow was coming down hard. We took a few photos and headed down the mountain while we could." - Mike Johnson |
